Take a tour of the ancient Greek Underworld — as if it were a London tube map.
The London Underground can often feel alike a world of eternal pain and torture. So what better way to present a map of the ancient Greek Underworld than as if it were modelled on the tortuous tube?
That's exactly what Lorna Robinson, Director of the Iris Project, did as part of the Classical Myth Day, which ran at the East Oxford Community Classics Centre on 1st April 2014. "I've always been fascinated by the London Underground — it already feels to me like a sort of gloomy underground kingdom," explains Robinson. "So it felt natural to try and re-imagine its various stops and lines as part of the ancient Greek Underworld."
The map is now on display at the Cheney School, which plays host to the East Oxford Community Classics Centre.
